Gentle Leather Cleaner
1 cup water
1 tablespoon liquid Castile soap or homemade liquid soap
1/2 cup white vinegar
Mix together and shake before using. Apply to a
soft cloth rag and wipe down. Follow with leather polish.
Leather Polish
1/2 cup wheat germ oil
1/4 cup castor oil (red turkey oil)
This mixture will soften, condition, and help waterproof your leather
furniture. (If your leather is white or very light beige, color test on a
small spot on the back first since this recipe will sometimes slightly darken
very light leathers.)
Leather Care Tips:
Give it to the experts. Removing stains from leather and suede is
tricky; unless a spot on a garment or piece of furniture is minor, you should
have it cleaned by a professional leather-cleaning firm.
Cold cream cleans and softens leather just as well as more expensive
leather-conditioning compounds. Rub it in with your fingers and wipe away
excess with a cloth or paper towel.
No plastic bags. Leather clothes stored in plastic can dry out and
become discolored. To keep dust off hanging leather clothes, cover them with
cloth.
