You will find a variety of homemade seasoning and spice recipes here, and they are so easy to make you'll want to try them all. And most importantly, making your dry mixes means you get to control the quality and protect the nutrition of your family's food.
All of these seasoning and spice mixes should be stored tightly covered in a cool, dry place and will keep well up to 6 months. Small glass jars with screw-on lids work best. Most seasonings and spices will stay fresher longer if stored in the refrigerator. Be sure to label each mix with its name and use. It's great to have recipes for these seasoning and spice mixes, because sometimes they are difficult to find in grocery stores.

Did You Know?
Seasoning
is the process of adding or improving flavors of food. Seasonings include herbs,
spices, and all other condiments. In addition to the choice of herbs and
seasoning, the timing of when flavors are added will affect the food that is
being cooked. A variety of seasoning techniques exist in various cultures.
Storage Ideas: I like to save all my glass jars (from mayo, pickles, etc.)
after they are empty, I clean them and remove their labels. Then I paint all the
lids with spray paint to match my decor. Now what used to be a bunch of random
empty jars has become a decorative collection.
Mason jars work too.
Another idea I have herd about is to put your mix in a plastic bag and then put it into a brown paper lunch bag. Fold the top over, punch two holes at the top. Thread with raffia and a decorative label. These make great gifts too.
Gift Idea:
A collection of blends makes a good gift for someone setting up house, a
beginner cook, or the busy professional.
